THE WIZARD OF OZ
VIDEO/PROJECTION DESIGNER
I was very happy and grateful to be taking on the Neptune Theatre main stage at the end of 2025. As video/projection designer, I created video content for each and every moment of this show. My surfaces were three gorgeous, huge portals that framed the stage, a large egg shaped surface, a scrim, and a mirror orb set piece. Nearly all the content was hand drawn and animated from scratch.
My design and build highlights include:
The Wizard - which was made using footage I recorded of Jeremiah Sparks I motion captured, and used to reanimate a 3D model of him. This required a lot of work in Blender! The Wizard's face appeared from his mustache up, so that we could sync up live vocals from the performer. Each line of script spoken off stage would be the cue the next facial reaction on stage.
Stained Glass Walls - I created large pieces of hand drawn and animated stained glass art, which framed the space of the Witch's Castle, the Wizard's Chambers, and the City of Oz.
Kansas - this space was designed like a story book with sketched tree, a spinning windmill, flying birds, and painted slow-moving clouds.
Orb Vision - Prerecorded performances of Amy Reitsma and Emma Slipp allowed me to create the vision Dorothy sees in the Witch's orb.
The Tornado - I created a swirling cyclone that rotated across the portals in a twisting way, then and drew and animated a serious of objects to fly around the circling storm.
