MEMORIES BEYOND THE GRAVE
PROJECTION, SET & LIGHTING DESIGNER
Memories Beyond The Grave follows the close sibling bond between Francois René de Chateaubriand and Lucile de Chateaubriand, which was strengthened through their love of nature during childhood and adolescence.
As projections designer, I designed and created projections for the full 90 minute show, in an organic video collage style, almost entirely comprised of nature imagery. The projections were representative of the imagery Chateaubriand might see when recalling his memories of his life alongside his sister and in his solitude.I also worked with a dancer, Gillian Seaward-Boone, who I motion tracked and recorded in 2D silhouette to become the Muse within the projection design.
I also put together translated subtitles on separate projection screen for some of the french pieces.
As set designer, I designed and constructed a mixed fabric wall of long strips of fabric to act as a fluid curtain, backdrop, and projection screen within the church. I also designed and made a large moon centrepiece to be projected on. The materials used in the set and costume design were the same to tie the two worlds into one imagined space.
As lighting designer, I worked within tight budgetary and space constraints, using LED fixtures to flood the space and the performers with colour as we explore each of Chateaubriand's memory spaces.
